Small Business Engagement

IAAPS has been built with collaboration at its heart, working across our networks to support business incubation and accelerate SME growth. IAAPS works to accelerate the pace of innovation across companies of all sizes and facilitate collaboration between innovators and those who can help realise their ideas. There are a number of ways small businesses can collaborate with IAAPS and our networks.

Creating a Highly Productive Engineering Cluster

Through IAAPS’ open access model, academics, automotive industry partners and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are able to conduct transformational research with access to world-class research infrastructure and people. This promotes greater collaboration and the sharing of expertise to advance knowledge. The IAAPS team, in partnership with SETsquared, are working to establish networks across the South West region to bring together experts and their ideas to deliver the innovation required to support the automotive industry on the Road To Zero. A number of initiatives are in place, including the Advanced Technologies Network, which enables companies to meet, collaborate and jointly develop their ideas into funding bids and collaborative research and projects.

Advanced Engineering Business Acceleration Hub

This initiative provides fully funded business support for start ups, scale ups and small businesses to drive business acceleration through funding, business development, coaching and collaborations. The Advanced Engineering Business Acceleration Hub (AEBAH) offers bespoke business support and coaching to innovative companies in the West of England.

Funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) the programme is open to growth businesses in the advanced engineering sector. All business support is tailored to each individual business need – from engaging with a consultant, building a team, working with an expert to build a pitch, or developing cutting edge technologies with researchers at the University of Bath through IAAPS.

AEBAH was established in 2018 and runs for a three year period to help establish and scale-up 130 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Working with the University of Bath is an excellent way to develop relationships with innovative scientists and researchers. The Advanced Engineering Business Acceleration Hub can help connect businesses to the right departments and people.

Next Generation Transport – SETsquared Scale-Up Programme

In recent years, the transport sector has begun to close the gap on other sectors with cutting-edge developments making new modes of transport a reality. In the not too distant future, when people do need to travel, they may be able to do so through the use of fully autonomous vehicles leading to the improvement of journey times, passenger comfort and safety, as well as safeguarding the environment.

At this pivotal time, the SETsquared Scale-Up Programme has a range of opportunities for companies and academics innovating in the area of Next Generation Transport.

The SETsquared mission is to accelerate the growth of SMEs through access to expertise at our six scale-up partner universities (Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey) and help to raise public and private investment.
