IAAPS implements new organisational structure

10 November 2022

IAAPS Ltd has announced changes within its organisational structure, strengthening its leadership team and streamlining reporting lines to accelerate the next growth and scale-up phase of the business.

Tony Reid, formerly Business Development & Enterprise Manager, is assuming the role of Commercial Director, overseeing the commercial development of IAAPS and the delivery of key growth objectives. In addition, Paul Shilham has been promoted from Financial Controller to Head of Finance, charged with the development of the long-term business plan and management of all finance functions within IAAPS. Business Development, Marketing & Communications and IT will now be reporting into the Commercial Director, while Project Management and Accounting will be led by the Head of Finance. These changes take effect immediately.

Meanwhile, Gavin Edwards is leaving his role as IT & Operations Director at the end of October to pursue a new challenge as Director of Digital Transformation at IAAPS’ parent organisation, the University of Bath. The Engineering Division will continue to be led by Professor Rob Oliver, Engineering Director, with Professor Gary Hawley also retaining his position as Executive Director of IAAPS.

The calibration in organisational model is designed to create a leaner management structure, generate operational efficiencies and support the development and successful delivery of the business pipeline. Earlier this year, the new £70m state-of-the-art IAAPS facility based at the Bristol & Bath Science Park opened its doors and is set to reach fully commissioned status by the end of 2022, which will see the business enter an ambitious scale-up phase.

“IAAPS is a world-leading R&I centre for advanced propulsion systems, committed to supporting the transport sector in the transition to net zero. Over the last 12 months, our portfolio and the market sectors we serve have diversified considerably, and as business we are entering a phase of significant expansion. The new appointments and changes in our operational structure are central to our growth strategy and will help make us more agile, responsive and build the necessary foundation to achieve our commercial objectives,” says Professor Gary Hawley, Executive Director, IAAPS.

“I would like to thank Gavin Edwards for his achievements, dedication and hard work in helping us get IAAPS off the ground, and on behalf of the whole team, I wish him all the best in his new role. Equally, I would like to congratulate Tony Reid and Paul Shilham on their new responsibilities and the vital role they will play in the next stage of our development.”
